Epidemiology of autism deals with its prevention, causes and the distribution in various parts of the world.

About Epidemiology:

Autism is caused due to the the defect in certain areas of the brain like the cerebellum, septum , amygdala etc. The neurons or the nerve cells of the brain are smaller in dimension and the growth of the nerve fibers is retarded. The nerve impulses are not transmitted in a proper way through the neurons.

Autism also occurs if the mother suffers from the viral disease called rubella.

The patients also suffer from autism if there is an excessive accumulation of phenylalanine and phenyl pyruvic acid in the blood stream. The children suffer from autism if they have tuberous sclerosis that affects the nervous system and the skin . Autism is also caused due to genetic factors.
Encephalitis is another disease that causes autism in the children. Autism is caused due when the brain fails to develop properly in the fetus.

According the survey conducted by Autism Society of America, the boys are 4 times more susceptible to be infected with autism as compared to the girls.

About 4 million people will be afflicted with autism within a time span of 10 years.
Autism is growing at the rate of 10 to 17 % per year in USA.

A lot of institutes are available that teach the autistic children to distinguish between the normal and the abnormal behavioral patterns. The autistic children imbibe the skills that are required for transforming their behavioral pattern.

The autistic children should be patronized to partake in the social activities like other children . The intelligent quotient of the autistic children can be improved by certain techniques that are taught in the schools.
